Be the Hero of your story.

Let me share a particularly proud moment:  This video (first in a series) featuring the Head Instructor of the Eastside San Jose location Nick Borbon, coinciding with the 16th anniversary of my studio Heroes and the 5th anniversary of that location (we now have four location in the South Bay Area).  That is indeed a lot to be proud of.

But what I am exceptionally proud of is how we got to this stage.  Martial Arts (Fitness) is essentially a service industry, meaning that a large part of your product is customer experience, our product is delivered on a daily basis in a very personal way.  I couldn’t possibly run four locations by myself unless I had really excellent instructors and people who I trust intimately.  I’ve known Nick since he was 17 years old which is over 15 years now.  I tell a little story about how I never imagined that this kid who had to have his Mom come in and sign the waiver and I would somehow be business partners in the future but that’s not entirely true.

Truth is I always knew that I would open up more locations, and that someone would come up from the ranks and stand with me, after all I knew what MY path was to becoming a gym owner, although I didn’t necessarily know from day one it would be Nick (or Trevor, or Bobby, or Sean, my other head instructors / business partners), but I did know this day would come.

It’s one of the reasons why this is called “Heroes Martial Arts” as opposed to Alan “Gumby” Marques Jiu Jitsu or something like that.  While I do have a small amount of notoriety within the community the purpose of this marketing campaign is to shine the spotlight on others.  Whatever my personal accomplishments are, the brand of Heroes is much more than just about me, it’s about the team.  Although I try to be very active at the academy, the truth is these days most of the students are far more likely to interact with one of the other instructors, and they are the ones who deserve the credit and publicity now.

I had thought about making a more visual appearance and introduction on this video (I am still the voiceover), but ultimately decided it was an unnecessary distraction in this case.  Ultimately from a marketing tactic it’s not so much about how great we are, it’s telling one of the many stories at Heroes Martial Arts so we can demonstrate what we can do for you.

Be the Hero of Your Own Story.

So proud moment for myself, but I hope everyone can take pride in this academy as well.
